LIVIGNO, A VALLEY IN THE CENTRE OF THE ALPS

Livigno is in an unusual position , being more than 30kms from the nearest towns of Bormio and those in the Engadina, the almost non existent approach routes, which in the past were blocked by snow for up to 7 months of the year and the total lack of communication with the outside world, all determined the development of an economy linked to agriculture and livestock breeding. The isolation which in the past was the weak link in the development of tourism, has today proven to be a major plus advantage in its development. As Livigno developed its communication links with the outside world it was also able to protect its character and building development which has so spoiled many other alpine resorts.
