NOSTALGIA FOR
LIVIGNO
"... a never ending deep-blue sky and air that feels like silk that
gives a voracious appetite..."
The nostalgia for Livigno was felt not only by Giovanni Guareschi,
who stayed in Trepalle and created the figure of Don Camillo, inspired
by Don Alessandro Parenti the priest at Trepalle, the highest parish in
Europe, but it is also a sentiment of everybody who remembers the days
spent in Livigno, waiting anxiously to come here for the next holiday.
Nostalgia for fresh dry air that invigorates and encourages us to face
up the daily stress of the city, for the dry climate without dampness,
that allows everybody, both the grandparents and the grandchildren, to
tolerate easily the 1800m height of the valley.
An enclave closed between two mountain chains that preserves the valley
both from the cold currents blowing from the North and the damp ones blowing
from the South.
Nostalgia for the sun and clear air, for green, wood and helds covered
with multicoloured flowers, that are in contrast with the snow-white glaciers
of Bernina and Ortles-Cevedale, that stand out clearly against the blue
sky.
Nostalgia for the Stelvio and Swiss National Parks, that frame the
long valley and where it's very easy to come across chamois, steinbocks
and the rich alpine fauna.
Nostalgia for traditions from the earliest times that in Livigno seem
never to disappear.
The bait, the houses made of wood and bricks which line the main street
crossing the valley, the tee made of wood, the residence only for the summer,
scattered along the tresende, the paths bounded by sef, fences that run
across the wide grassland at the bottom of the woods and up into of the
side valleys.
The silence broken by the pealing of the cowbells and by the gurgling
water of the streams.
Nostalgia for Livigno, for the peace and serenity, which you'll find
here during your holiday directly in contact with nature and the alpine
culture which belongs to the local population who have been able to keep
alive the traditions of the high mountains.
